If you spend everyday in the woods and need to be aware of the finer distinctions between hawthorns, then the bigger, glossier tree guides are for you. Personally, I find them almost overwhelming in their detail. The Golden Guides were pitch-perfect in the simplicity married to precision. I've used these books with numerous children to help inspire their passion for trees: they were so clear and artistically managed that four-year olds have gone on nature walks with me and managed to properly identify sassafras and different types of pine.The clarity of the Golden Guide Trees more than compensates for its smaller size. Highly recommended.

Bought this book to update the ones we have at our cabin which were published in the 1950s (according to the hand written birthday note in the inside cover with the year). Well.. I havent done an exact side by side comparison but as far as I can tell from reading them they have made no changes to the contents of the book.

I love Golden Guides. I got my first as a kid in the 60’s. I still have all of mine & am now buying them for my grandchildren. Not at all babyish, great illustrations, with informative written detail.

I am a hobbyisnt woodworker that wanted to know a bit more about trees. This book made me look at trees a lot different. Now, when i go on runs, i don't stop staring at trees and trying to guess what they are. When I'm walking around i can pull up this guide on my phone and semi-easily identify which tree I am looking at.However, the formatting could be a bit more consistent in this guide. For example, some trees don't have maps, some trees dont have illustrations. Also, the start of new types of trees are shown differently (oaks had a small description and then descriptions for each oak while maple had a large centered heading and then the descriptions of each maple)

This book is an excellent field guide, as is the rest of the Golden Guides. I carry this on me when I'm in the field at work for quick identification of species. While it is a smaller book and does not have an extensive amount of information on each species, it has just enough to know what you are looking at in the field so you can research at a later date, saving you from lugging a huge identification key around.

I found it a little disappointing when I realized it only showcased North American insects. However, considering the sheer amount of species of bugs that exist the world, there is just no reasonable way to fit so much info into a field guide as small as this. It does a good job of summarizing the main orders.

Best insect field guide for hikes. Small, hand sized. Easy to navigate with just enough insects to begin to identify what we saw. Not good for exact identification, but a great start.

Since kids are my toughest customers when it comes to food, I had to purchase this book. I find that I like some of the recipes better than my kids. They have liked some of the things I have prepared from the book. I think this is very well written although I did stumble a bit at the metric measurements but have been happy to better learn the metric system and apply it in the kitchen.

Beautiful book. Lots of recipes that anyone, not just children can enjoy. The science section is well written with great pictures. Love the book. It will be a "keeper" along with all my other books on LCHF and will sit next to my book titled, "The Art and Science of Low Carb Living".

Love this book!. Very well written and gorgeous pictures! Excellent recipes. But only follow these recommendations if you want to optimize your child's physical and brain development, while drastically reducing dental disease. All others can stick with a processed food diet. I have come to realize that any work done by Tim Noakes and his Foundation is FIRST CLASS!!!!. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK PROFESSOR NOAKES!

My Man studies this book. He wants to feed our kids like this. I see there is no sugar, not even agave. I like that. I can give up sugar. Then you cannot eat rice or potatoes or pasta, just meat fat fat cheese avocados milk cream...etc...but no grains. No SUGAR. I also think Tim Noakes is getting sued by sugar industry this month, they dont want his anti sugar message out there especially for kids.

I really appreciate the recipes in here, but at least with my kids, getting them to eat most of the dishes will be extremely challenging. Making it harder is that this is written using South African type dishes and ingredients (i.e. courgettes and aubergines). Still there is enough useful information to be helpful.Major cons: I wish they would have provided nutrition information for each recipe (carb content etc.) and some of the prep work is not well explained in the recipes.

Very useful and helpful book with easy-to-do recipes. Suits for the whole family :-)

This the guide line plan my granddaughter has gotten from her baby's doctor on when to feed him solid food and what to feed him. She is so very glad she has it.

This is a great book, in an era of confusion about food & nutrition this book has expert advice on the best foods to help your children grow up as healthy as possible

Still worth the read though!The introduction of the book talked about what Lean UX is and isn’t. It was compared to Agile Design and User-Centered Design, which meant nothing to me, to be honest. The actual definition was irrelevant to why I was reading this book - I care more about the practice and benefits of Lean UX. But the rest of the book got into the meat of that.Lean UX can be summarized into 3 principles: 1. Do research. Ask questions, make hypotheses. 2. Validate. Answer questions, test hypotheses. 3. Iterate. Take answers and data, and then make adjustments.Research is extremely important not just because it tells you whether your product or service is viable, but because it saves you time and money. The key to Lean UX is doing research and avoiding problems before they come up. Don't waste your resources."Lean UX isn’t about adding features to a product, it’s about figuring out which metrics drive a business.”The author talked about the 2 different kinds of research you can do: quantitative and qualitative. "Quantitative research tells you what your problem is. Qualitative research tells you why you have that problem."Quantitative research is about getting statistically significant data about a potential feature or workflow - like A/B testing. Qualitative research is about listening to what the user has to say. You have to pay attention to what they do and how they use your product. Looking over someone's shoulder while they use your product is a great way to do user research.The best way to figure out if you product is any good is to hand your product over to the people and observe how they use it. The worst way is to ask people if they would use it. The main reasons for this are because we as consumers don't really know what we want and our dollars speak louder than our words.Another thing I liked from this book was this set of questions we should ask when determining if a landing page has good UX: 1. What does the user think this product does? 2. Who does the user think the product is for? 3. Can the user figure out how to get the product?It seems simple, but those questions are golden. If you're already a UX designer or you've read a fair amount of stuff on UX, you probably won't find this novel at all.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It explains UX design in the context of lean startups. It’s a great read for anyone, even if you don’t work at a startup. And it made me laugh out loud several times as I was reading. (I listen to Laura’s podcast, What is Wrong with UX, so I’m familiar with her sarcastic sense of humor.)Laura shows you how to validate hypotheses with UX tools like user research. She goes into detail about the different user research methods out there and when to use them.I’m glad Laura also explains an MVP. Contrary to popular belief, an MVP is not the s***tiest version of your product you can ship. An MVP is the smallest thing you can build to validate or invalidate a hypothesis.Laura uses funny stories and examples to illustrate her points. I appreciate her analogy “fixating on the cupholders.” Fixating on the cupholders is like building a car that doesn’t have any brakes, yet focusing on how to design the cup holders. This analogy refers to when teams channel time and money into building the wrong things, such as building low priority features.Laura talks about fixating on cupholders in the context of startups, but I’ve seen this happen outside of startups.I also appreciate Laura’s approach to new product ideas. Laura says, don’t try to come up with brilliant product ideas out of thin air. Instead, think about every product as a solution to somebody’s problem.This book is packed with great stuff for entrepreneurs and UX designers. Do yourself a favor and read it. :)

I really love this book because it consolidates the key principles of Lean and in an easy to understand way, and Its really helped me plan my projects better. You dont have to be an expert to understand it. I refer back to specific chapters a lot when I work though new projects.I think of the design and development process very differently now, after reading this. Especially in regards to metrics, and analytics, and deciding what i need to measure to determine my design decisions have actually improved my app. As I designers, I need to explain why ive changed the design and help show that its "better" than it was before and that people like it more. It also gave me tons of ideas how to test out new designs to see if they are truly better and result in more engagement. It relaly de-mystified many concepts for me. Its helped me ground all my decisions in reality and think more clearly about how to make design, schedule, and make requirements decisions.Its really useful for PMs, designers, and developers because all the concepts can be applied to all these roles in different ways. I can see the changes throughout my team after we all read this. So, I highly recommend it.

My 4 year old son and 2 year old daughter are both obsessed with this book. (They also love the Disney Christmas collection.) We have made many of the recipes. I only wish there were more Disney cookbooks out because my kids can't seem to get enough!

Lots of other reviewers have described the recipes, and the ones we've tried so far are great. (The pancakes are the best you'll ever make!) I posted some example pics of the pages.What I actually want to comment on, as an artist, mom and avid Disney fan, are the illustrations, which I LOVE. I looked at each page just so I could look at them. Whoever did these illustrations needs to be promoted to head of the Disney Princess product art department! They are very well done, and very true to each princess' movie look. I couldn't stand Disney's extreme "makeovers" on all the princesses, where they glammed them up by not only giving them more makeup and fancier hair and clothes, but also changed their bodies and faces, making them taller, skinnier, paler, older and vapid. But in this book, the princesses look just like they did in the movies, very cute, more "real" (as real as a cartoon can get) and down-to-earth, with some personality. Love it!Also, the men are shown cooking too, which is great!

Book came nicely packaged. We already made few recipes and they were all delicious.

I gave this to my granddaughter on her 8th birthday. Since she lives of state, I could not make the party. I gave her a diamond and birthday stone 24 kt. gold necklace. She is very privileged and received very nice gifts but this was her favorite. I felt I had wasted money on the necklace when I could have just given her this. She loves to cook and she told me that she has made two things already in less than 3 days of receiving it. She said it was "the best gift ever". Even my husband was impressed with it.

I was impressed by the quality of this book. It is sturdy with a thick glossy cover. The pages are made from heavy paper. The recipes are appealing and broken down into small steps for the beginning cook. Each recipe is a double page spread. One side is the picture of the dish and the other has the recipe and an animated character from one of the Disney movies. Very visually appealing. Most of the ingredients are staples in the average kitchen. There are a few recipes whose pictures are quite unrealistic in their presentation, such as the snack Magic Carpet Roll-Ups; cream cheese on a tortilla with sliced red peppers and carrot. Easy enough to do and a pretty good snack, but the photo shows the carrot sticks cut impossibly thin, fine and uniform, not something most adults could replicate. Certainly nothing a child could hope to accurately replicate. That being said, many of the recipes are pretty simple and appetizing. All in all a very nice book I would purchase again.

My 5 year old loves to cook in the kitchen with me. Excellent book with great photos. Easy & fun recipes that use normal ingredients. Nothing too fancy but good inspirations.

This is probably the best cookbook I have ever purchased. I bought one for a gift and loved it so much I bought one for myself. When it arrived a friend who was heading off to college thought it was such a great starter cookbook she took that one and I had to buy another one for me. The recipes are not boring, standard foods. And lots of healthy options. The instructions are really easy to follow and perfect for anyone at any age to follow. Its not to childish for grown ups but not too advanced for kids. Gives great cooking basic tips at the beginning. This is great and I would gift this to anyone!

Wow. I thought "how good can this cookbook be?!" after reading all these reviews. But they're right. This is a remarkably well done cookbook. With four little girls, we've started quite the collection of children's cookbooks, and this is far and away the winner. Beautiful illustrations, clear instructions, charming concepts behind the recipes - but most importantly, the recipes are GOOD! Innovative, tasty, simple.... I'm blown away. We've already made three things out of this in a week, with plans for two more this weekend. Don't let the "Disney" part throw you - this isn't just a cutesy cookbook.

This cookbook is a surprisingly good cookbook. Most of the time I get frustrated with cookbooks for kids because they will have clever names for something that is literally toast with butter, or a peanut butter and jelly. Some kids actually want to do REAL cooking (with parental supervision and help, of course!), and this book will let you do that. At first I thought it was going to be one of the annoying books. I opened to a random page that showed bread with jam on it. To my surprise, it was actually a recipe to make the jam from scratch! Another page showed bread and butter, but it actually showed how to make the bread (I believe it was baguette). The recipes are all actually recipes, not just snack ideas that are cleverly named. Well worth the price.
