I was fortunate enough to read this book before it was published and I was extremely impressed.For a first time author, Aliza has been able to skip past the stages of mediocrity that I feel a lot of people find themselves in when starting out (This is also why I've never written a book), this could be because of the amount of hours poured into making sure this book was everything it could be, or it could be natural talent and gifting; maybe it's both.What I can say for certain is that I was amazed at the amount of description that went into each character and scene. I have a highly active imagination and I need to be able to visualize what I am reading, there was never a time where I felt like I didn't understand who a character was or what they were supposed to look like and even though I read the book over three months ago, I can still picture not only the main characters of the story, but the lesser characters.There were a few areas where I felt that the dialogue didn't quite come off as natural as it could have, never enough to remove you from a story, but just to make myself at least, think "That wording doesn't quite seem right"; and we're talking maybe five sentences of dialogue out of 318 pages. It's basically non existant.I don't just say this as a friend of the author, but I was extremely impressed by this novel, it doesn't feel like a first and it's far better than some books I've read by well established authors. I've also never been a huge fan of non-fiction or YA novels, yet I stayed up until 3am reading the last 150 odd pages because I was so invested in the story.Well done Aliza.
Y'all. I don't think I've been so emotionally attached to a book since I read The Fault in Our Stars. There are only a handful of books that have captured my attention and held it for so long- long enough to read the whole book in 1 or 2 sittings. I finished this book in about 24 hours, and for good reason: it was beautifully and hauntingly captivating. If you're looking for a new novel to escape into, I highly recommend this one. It's very fast paced and whimsically worded. Twists and turns I wasn't expecting in each chapter, characters I wasn't expecting yet fell in love with. All the characters are so dimensional and well thought out. And there are a lot of good and important lessons weaved between the lines. It was a beautiful story I'll read again.
life is complicated and messy and hard, and raising 2 teenage girls in today's world is a huge challenge. they are constantly bombarded by confusing situations at school and with friends, by unrealistic pictures of what life is like and solutions for tough situations with netflix series and sub-par novels aimed at young adults, and conflicting views of faith and tolerance.come find me, sage parker deals with some tough issues which are all too common for today's teenage girls. this book not only brings up difficult situations, but also develops characters who find hope in hard places. i'm looking forward to sharing this book with my girls (one of them is halfway through it after a day or two of reading). i would hope that my girls will see that in desperate situations, like the ones the characters in come find me, sage parker find themselves, there is hope and a way out when you don't give up and when you surround yourself with people who desire the best for you. thank you, aliza, for sharing this story and for providing a message for today's teens that our struggles don't define us. there is always hope.
When i read the synopsis of this book i thought the story was going to be solely about a girl's journey to find her mother. In a way it was that, but i was delightfully surprised that it was more of a story about a girl finding herself. she finds herself through mistakes, friendships, tragedy, and life-changing decisions... much like we all do. This book made me feel all the emotions - everything from my childhood that i wish i could forget... and everything that shaped me into who i am today. I found a little bit of myself in each character, and a little bit of who i want to be.This book is filled with characters that you instantly connect with. The story is full of intrigue, fear, anger, doubt, friendship, adventure, and falling in love. But most are manifest in ways you wouldn't expect, which is what i loved so much about this story. It drew me in and i was invested in these character's stories... their lives. This story was full of so much... but mostly it is a story of practical hope that you can cling to and resonate with. This story is exactly what young adult literature needs.
This is a book you will not be able to put down until it's done and when it is done, you will be sad it's over. Aliza Latta stuns with her ability to make you feel as though you have jumped into the pages of this book and are actually watching the events unfold, live, in front of your eyes. Her ability to develop each character carefully and wonderfully, while continuously honouring their beings is exquisite. You are left content with the ending, but longing to know where everyone ends up in 10 years.This book accurately details the struggles we have all faced in those tender teenage years as we learn how to navigate the big scary world while we try and figure out who we are as individuals. The characters are real and relatable as they experience life, love, and loss. You are left connecting with each character in this book because we all have a Maeve, Levi, Sol or Ky somewhere in the folds of our own lives. This is the story we have all been waiting for.
I loved this book. The characters were true to themselves though not overwhelmingly amazing and the plot was mostly predictable but I loved it. At times Maeve is annoying and it makes me want to quit reading the book. The story was both unrealistic and almost too realistic at the same time. I thought about giving up on this book but it was worth it to finish and I’m glad I read it.
I read this book in a day. I can't remember the last time I did that. Aliza has crafted a beautiful story, full of hope, that I could not get enough of. Her characters, especially Maeve, were equally lovable. I am looking forward to reading more of this author.
