Very disappointed. Do NOT buy the Classic Reprint Series of this book, it is nothing more than a poor quality scan of each page of the original book. The pages are not straight nor do the even fill the page. Pictures are dark, text is unclear. Not worth the paper it is printed on, will be sending it back.

I couldn't believe it when I saw that this cookbook was available as a "new" book (authentic reproduction) again. I received it - probably as a birthday gift? I don't remember - when I was a young child, about 50 years ago. I have always been a cookbook reader, and I spent many happy hours as a child reading this book. So when I saw that it was available again, I eagerly bought a copy for the sake of nostalgia.As an object of nostalgia, I would rate it 5 stars. It looks exactly like the original, and has the same durable and convenient hardcover spiral binding that I remember. Although if you look carefully, you can tell that the cover is from a "photo of a photo," as the image isn't quite as crisp as an original would be. Also, the green glossy material used on the inside of the front & back covers was not in the original. However, everything else about the book is a perfect reproduction.As a 21st-century cookbook for children to use, I'd probably give it only 3 stars. There is a lot about cooking that has changed in the 60 years since this book was first published:* Our understanding of nutrition has improved significantly* We encounter a greater variety of ingredients, especially fresh produce, in our stores* Our food landscape has been enriched by many contributions from nearly every continent and every corner of the earth (I had definitely never heard of hummus or chiles rellenos when I used to read this book on lazy summer afternoons), and* Rather than seeing canned/highly processed foods as exciting miracles of modern culinary technology, we now see them as the less healthy and less tasty versions of food.This cookbook is definitely rooted in the food styles, tastes and knowledge of its mid-20th-century era.That being said, this was a very, VERY good children's cookbook for its era. The recipes are creative, attractive, and often whimsical. There is a LOT of information for a budding cook who doesn't want to just learn a particular recipe, but actually wants to learn how to cook - such as cooking methods and terminology, types of utensils, safety guidelines. It piques the interest through extras like the illustrations (including many gorgeous full-page color glossy photos of finished recipes) and the sidebar tips from the 12 kids who were the "Junior Testers" of all the recipes in the book.So, bottom line:1. If you are an adult who was in love with this book as a kid, buy it.2. If you are thinking of buying it for a child in your life today, I would say go ahead and buy it for its instructional value in the basics of cooking, but give the child a more contemporary children's cookbook at the same time.

My grandma's was falling out of the binding and she could find the chocolate chip cookies with her eyes closed. But this one was in great condition, so I guess I'll have more time to use it to rags. Love this book. And I was not expecting it at the steal of a price I got. I got lucky. 10 stars if I could.

Received the book. It is in remarkable condition for being nearly 30 years old.The cover of the book I received matches the photo on the listing....but not the description. Be forewarned, this book does NOT contain the beautiful photos described in the review. In fact it contains on a very few black and "white" (the book is old) illustrations. Other than feeling a tad bit ripped off that the book is not as described, it is in great, readable condition and appears to have all of it's pages intact. Overall, especially for the price, I am pleased with my purchase. However, the Review/Description should be amended to match this particular book so as not to deceive customers.UPDATE:Just received my other book which is the one in the photo for this listing. It is the 1976 (1969 copyright) Betty Crocker Cookbook with the Pie diagram on the front. This book is in remarkable condition considering it's older than I am. Very happy with this purchase. One of my aunts gave me this book when I was seven. My copy is worn to shreds—food stains on every page, cover hanging on by a wire—but I still use it, 45 years later. It’s important enough to have survived many, many moves; sometimes supplanted by the likes of Julia Child and Jacques Pepin; but when I’m called on to bring an Easter dish to a get-together, my thoughts go immediately to the Bunny Salad in this book, and it’s always a hit.How much to love! The recipes are cute and imaginative, fairly simple but delicious. The kitchen tips and advice are stellar for any age. How to set the table? It’s here. How to scramble eggs? Also here. Measuring, stirring, meal prep are all described and illustrated in a most kid friendly format.It’s safe; parental permission and supervision is invoked whenever heat or knives are involved.May I recommend the chocolate pudding? It’s the most stained page in my copy...I just purchased the newest edition for my seven year old grandson. I was thrilled that the cover is exactly the same as mine (though cleaner), and I hope it gives him the beginning of the same lifelong enjoyment of cooking as it gave me.

I had a first edition of this cookbook as a little girl. I have no clue whatever happened to that book, but I am so happy that I found this one. I gave it to my grandkids to have at my home for cooking with grandma. They have all penciled in their names on the pages that they want to cook from with grandma. The book only have drawings rather than photos, but that is fine as the recipes are not all that difficult and it just makes in more exciting for kids to see what the real deal looks like in the end.

This cookbook was purchsed as a gift for a 10 year old girl. She loved the gift and together with her mother, has prepared a couple of the recipes in this book. she said it was really easy to read and understand, and it gave her a list of supplies that was required to make each recipe. The pictures are colorful which makes it even more interesting and eye catching. I, a senior lady, still have my original cookbook just like this which was given to me by my deceased mother. As a child, I loved using it and cooking with my mother's help.

Ms Frank has done it again ! I enjoyed every single word, page and character. In my opinion, this book is one of my favorites; it's the eye opening to the truth for Alfonzo, Nico and Geo. Each one had to face the flaws and their accomplishments. They hold a bond within their bloodline, the next generation is here, and they are different. they have a say of the life they were born into.Alfonzo had a much needed break in order to see himself, and what he stands for. He learns a lot from within, he cherishes his wife and children. He questions himself and his future.Nico had to receive the fact that he loves his wife and his children. although he don't always show it, or express it but it's there inside of him. He is one of my favorite character, because he was built to be one way and realizes that he is human, with a heart and feelings.Geo, the strong man on the outside, but weak inside of his soul. He wants love and misses the true love he let go and died. His son is a memory of that love, he could not confess to.They all leave behind a generation to teach, and a history to learn. OH how I love this series, it is one of the best out there. If SW Frank keeps writing, I will keep buying.

Don't get me wrong; I love the mafia elements of this series, but I overwhelmingly enjoy reading about Alfonzo, Nick, and Giuseppe the family men so much more.Death is never a gratuitous act for the Giancanti clan. When you become a liability, you must go.I love how Al and Selange's bond strengthens with each new installment, but Nico and Ari are my favorites, by far. They are funny, flawed, but committed in all that dysfunction. Geo and Kenya? I don't know...Am I the only one still holdout that Shanda is alive by some miracle and being held captive somewhere? Carlo needs her...

I have been a fan of Ms. Frank's Alfonzo Series since I purchased the first book in 2014 an in each book up to Axiom, I have been struck how amazing Ms.Frank draws you into the story that has you eagerly waiting for the next. I love how she writes the favorable characters Alfonza, selanga, Nico, an Ari. In each book but also introduced you new characters and history behind all her stories. This is just amazing series that at times it is hard to a write review because there a no words to express the amazing writing an time Ms. Frank's put into her books. Highly recommended readers to buy this series an all books by s.w frank

Where to begin... The opening scene had to be my favorite; knowing what was to happen and how it came about - conversation and food with the Capo. Perfect.Nico - I loved, loved his scenes with his kids. Semira and Alexandros are beyond adorable. The way she took control and cared for her brother, well; gah, she is wise, sweet and selfless beyond her precious years. Also, yes, I admit to getting misty-eyed during Nico and Sergio's talk/conversation. Sergio has come a long way and I so want true happiness for him - in love and with family.Ari- There are times I really like her and then just as easily find her annoying lol. I know I am in the minority here but given how long she and Nico have been together, I don't get the "can't live without you" type relationship with them. Maybe it is the indiscretions and drama there. Meh.Geo - What has happened to my once favorite character?! He has always been the wild-card in the family. Pampered, spoiled and at times selfish, but I loved him in the early stages, with Shanda and even meeting and courting Nicole. Now he has become too much. Add the "wife" and I just can't. I always wanted a woman mature in mind set, good and strong enough to handle him and his business. Especially someone deserving of Carlo. Geo and Kenya... no thank you. :)Lorenzo, Diane and Yosef - I want to read and know more about them. I am hoping Diane is the daughter. Think of the possibilities and the ramifications!Having said all that, my one little complaint and not really one but for lack of a better word at the moment... The introduction of characters we really didn't get to know or care about and then their death. Eh, like the drama with Ari's past - just brought up and ended so quickly. The Russian storyline - the forced marriage and then death of the sister. Couldn't invest in any of that. Oh well lolI do hope there is more because the series is one of the best! Highly recommended.

This book was a little bit better. The stories seemed more complete. I feel like Lorenzo and Diane deserve a storyline all on their own. It's being neglected, especially since I'm confused on Yosef's actual involvement....i hope I will get an explanation.I don't get why these men won't tell their wives anything? They are openly involved in most of their business. So many ppl have sex with so close together, somebody daddy's are wrong. Example: Anna, Darren, and Yosef. Geo, Lucia, and Sergio. Too much is going on.Again, I don't get how Al doesn't understand the predicament that leaves other people set out for recenge against him and the family.It's like Anita's son. She loves Al but he had to know she would find out he did it and tried to get him back. This book help reach my reading challenge. Onto surpassing that number.

Nico is having a fit about Ari's supposed husband but he handled that as Nico always handles things.HmmmmThe Diaz family had a wonderful vacation but ended with bad news, now Selange is not happy. Sal is becoming a man and has a heart to heart with his Dad, which was so touching to read.Yosef is having regrets about not having children but thinks he may be the father of Chocolate. Boy, what a story this is going to be in the next book because she can't stand him since he's no more than a glorified limp she used to work for.Geo maybe catching some feelings. Hmmmm, interesting indeed.I always enjoy this series. I feel as though they are people I knew. They are written so realistically.
