This is an excellent picture book with no words - the kids I got this for loved it and were telling each other stories about it. The 8 year old loved the illustrations and how well done they are! A definite must for everyone!

Fun and colorful illustrations

This book will help kids learn to use their imagination in a way that will fascinate them. Award-winning author Karl Beckstrand and illustrator Ashley Sanborn have created a really clever and funny book. Kids will find it delightful and return to read it often. The book has eye-catching drawings but no words. Kids can look at the drawings and invent their own story. They will especially like the book and really think it is clever because they are the ones who are inventing the story.The book is called "Polar Bear Bowler” because of one episode in the book. One interpretation of the tale is that a polar bear travels by ship the Antarctica, swims ashore, and sees penguins for the first time. The bear has mixed feelings about them and they about the bear. They begin to play with each other, but the play is not always very friendly. For example, the polar bear plays bowling with them and uses them as the pins. They also each throw snowballs at each other. However, the bear and the penguins very soon develop a liking for each other. The story can also be seen as the bear and the penguins liking each other from the start and playing different games together. And there are many other possible interpretations of the story.

Kids will like this funny story. There are no words on any of the pages and the illustrations are very cute. Everyone is friends at the end.

I received a complimentary copy of this ebook for review, and found it delightful. Clever idea that a polar bear would mistake penguins for bowling pins, and how the little drama plays out to a resolution that kids will certainly be able to understand. The illustrations are well done and, even with no words to accompany them, bring out personalities in the bear and penguins. I envision kids excitedly coming up with their own words to tell the story as you turn the pages.Highly recommended kids' book.

This is an in-depth book on chicken health. We are new at raising chickens. I attended a workshop at Heifer International and this book was recommended. So, of course, I ordered it. It is extremely comprehensive - providing information on chicken anatomy, correct diet, behavioral issues, and just what might be wrong with your chicken. I do like that the book notes whether a disease is common or rare. I feel a bit more secure in this new adventure having this book for assistance. Especially with where I live - there isn't a vet around here for chickens.

I'm still reading it but it is easy to read. The sections and topics are easy to find and has pictures too. I have put it to use twice now to solve a problem with a chicken in my flock and had a great result.

I seen this on The chicken chicks Facebook page and I just had to buy this. I am so glad I did. I have 65 chickens and no local chicken vet. This will be a great addition to my chicken library.

This is a great book full of all the things you need to know to make informed decisions about your chickens. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that wants chickens or anyone that already has them and wants sound, proven, factual information about health and care problems. I will add that while I purchased the kindle version,( 90% of my books are virtual because I don't have the room to have a large bookcase so I only have copies of great cookbooks, plant and garden and now chicken health care) I will be adding the hardcover edition to my exclusive book collection. 2 thumbs up!

This was recommended by my vet! Good resource for your backyard flock of three or three hundred!

Excellent reference to have on hand. It’s easy to read for beginners, but the science is in depth enough to understand why a method would help an ill chicken. There’s also tables of common problems and potential sources of the problem and how to correct it. This book could only be made better if it had page references by the problem on the tables so you can flip to that section. Still pretty easy to navigate.

I have learned more than I ever wanted to know about chickens from reading this book! I am a new "mom" with 4 baby chicks & did not know what to expect. Even though a lot of this stuff scared me (all the things that could go wrong), I feel like I can take care of almost anything that I need to if I can't find a vet who treats chickens.

In White Locks, Mazen's character opens up beautifully, as Mazen's own hopes and dreams juxtaposed with Mazen the king's obligation to serve the people of his kingdom adds convincing richness to the story.Yet, this is far more than a romance novel or the profile of an admirable king. A supporting cast of characters and their cutthroat schemes to gain power and win the ultimate prize--the throne--is the suspenseful backdrop of Mazen and Marie's love story. I am so captivated by this Trilogy. Rose has done an amazing job of informing myself of knowledge about a specific religion and culture that I had not much knowledge of. In the first book I was so angry with Marie at the beginning for her hatred and prejudice(even though she had been thru a terrible tragedy) of a people that she really knew nothing about. There are bad and good in all races, cultures and religions. That being said, it doesn't mean that every person in a race, culture or religion are bad because of a few that are. I was so happy when she finally realized where she needed to be. The compassion, patience and love that Mazen has shown Marie just makes you love him more. I hope that everyone who reads this book realizes that no matter where we come from, we are all brother's and sister's and we should have open hearts and just love. I am sure the third book is going to be just as good if not better than the first two. Thank you Rose B. Mashal for giving us a beautiful love story that crosses boundaries an joins religions and cultures to show that with love all things are possible. You are amazing!!!!!

Amazing story! Rose B. Mashal delivers a beautiful story of love, of compassion and tolerance. A sequel to Black Keys, it tells of the life of an American executive who found herself in an arranged marriage in a foreign land, a kingdom full of tradition so different from hers. She had to leave her husband to discover herself, but only for a short time. She realizes how much she misses Mazen and returns to be with her love. Unsure of Mazen's feelings, she is determined to conquer cultural barriers and explore their need for each other. Their love is pure, kind and compassionate which make them strong for each other. They are one in spirit yet they are two different people. I like that Marie as a strong, intelligent and influential woman (although sometimes vulnerable when it comes to longing). Mazen proves to be very devoted to Marie; and no amount of pressure, cultural differences would diminish his love for Marie. A demonstration of how love is blind to obstacles. For Mazen, Marie is everything that he wants in a partner, lover and queen. I can't wait for the third book and hope that Mazen and Marie's love for each other will grow each day and remain faithful and strong for each other. More power and love to Rose!

I read Black Keys and completely fell in love with Mazen and Marie. Like everyone else I waited for the sequel so I could finally see this couple reunited. Mashal's writing is so hopeful, and Black Keys opened my eyes to a world where people from different religions can understand each other and find love. The second novel works to show the reader how this couple navigates blending their two worlds together.

This is one of the best books I have ever read, believe me, I know books. This book had everything that I loved about a good story.My only problem was that it was a trilogy, I wanted the whole story and not have to wait on anything to come.I was given a card from Amazon to buy this book after I told someone about the first book Black Keys. How can you make someone wait for the end of this story? This is cruel punishment.These were some great characters in these stories and I can't wait for the end product. I need to know if this will be a HEA or another cliffhanger? Anyway, I really loved this story and I can't wait for the last book to come out. Are you for real? Do I have to wait until 2017 to get the end of this story. Can I have just a taste not a teaser?Trust me you want to read this book! Happy reading.

I read book 1 and decided to purchased White Locks and I was not disappointed. Marie and Marzen continued to defend their love for each other in their new role of King & Queen. The noble duties, cultural and religious differences, the evil cousins tested their love but in the end caused their love to soar and defend all obstacles to the end.I can't wait to read the next installment. Cliffhanger...I don't mind it ... it keeps getting better!

The anecdotes are the best part of this book aside from the titular step by step guidance you probably came for. Perret has tons of experience from his years writing for the likes of Phyllis Diller and Bob Hope, and he also mentions some comics in the 80s like Emo Phillips who are still around but not on TV so much anymore and are really worth checking out on YouTube or following on Twitter.On my second time through reading it, I think there's some outdated information -- e.g. it doesn't seem as good of an idea to write greeting cards or newspaper comics anymore. But the Carol Burnett script examples are timelessly valuable, as is the structural writing advice, especially the chapter on routining.Some mention of Twitter would be really useful in a future edition. With the advent of internet self publishing, it's easier than ever to find an audience for your comedy as well as a community of comedians to learn from. Current successful comedians have been using social media not only to find new fans but also ensure that the right audience will come to their shows, which is a major change from the old club culture of the 80s.I keep the digital edition on my ipad so I can highlight the passages that are particularly useful to me and skim through my notes quickly for inspiration when I have a creative block. It's always nice to have some encouragement, and this book's supportive tone will keep me writing comedy for the rest of my life.

It's an okay book. Filled with to much fluff for me to rate it higher than a three. To much of it is the Author reminiscing about his glory days as a writer for Bob Hope and Phylis Diller, which is awesome that he accomplished that, but not very useful or interesting to me.The writing exercises in the second section give you some ideas and something to work on. Remember this book is, or at least some of the book is, about writing comedy and not performing it.Examples of comedy that are presented are lame in my opinion, and very dated. Some might still enjoy that kind humor - I don't.

Comedy can be learned, and Gene Perret is a masterful teacher. You won't be a master when you finish reading the book, but if you do the exercises you will be well on your way to being a very competent comedic writer.

Although this is by far his best book, it's not especially helpful when it comes to writing. He does give good advice when it comes to having the right attitude but he spends all of one chapter discussing actual writing techniques.Avoid all of his other books at all costs. It's just the same recycled stories over and over.

I enjoyed reading this book. The author walks you through the processes of creating jokes, writing monologues, and even on how to promote your material. I found this book to be an interesting worthwhile read.

Gene Perret is a genius. He knows comedy writing and how to teach it.

He had both me and my seven year old writing corny jokes by the book's end. He's a funny guy, a throwback from days when comics actually told jokes. I laughed out loud at his Bob Hope and bomb sniffing dogs joke. I mean, this guy wrote many, or was it most (not sure), of the Phyllis Diller "My mother is so..." jokes. That alone makes him an expert in my book.His exercises had my son and I dreaming up jokes in minutes using his simple rules. I'm not a comic, so I don't know if these rules are something every comic knows or not; but I didn't know them so it was new to me. Seems to me that his exercises on joke writing also apply to writing prose that is more dramatic and has greater tension. This book deserves every bit of 5 stars.

Very practical advice. It made a difference in my comedy writing immediately.

About the Author

Fr. Leo Clifford (1922-2012) was born March 21 in Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland, and was baptized Diarmuid Brendan. He then studied for two years at St. John s Seminary, Waterford, before entering the Order at the friary in his hometown in 1941, receiving the name Leo.In 1954, Fr. Leo received permission to come to the United States. For the next 50 years, he devoted himself to preaching, chiefly retreats and days of recollection for priests and religious.He maintained his extensive European connections. In 1962, he was asked to serve as English-language secretary to Cardinal Leo Suenens of Malines-Brussels at the Second Vatican Council. After a sabbatical year in 1993, Fr. Leo formally transferred from the Franciscan Province of Ireland to Holy Name Province. Although he began to slow down his traveling in the 1990s, videos of his talks continued to be broadcast daily on the EWTN television network. In 2003, he retired to St. Anthony Residence in Boston, but continued to serve as a confessor at St. Anthony Shrine, where he had a sizeable following. In 2010, he transferred first to St. Anthony Friary, Butler, N.J., and then to Holy Name Friary, Ringwood, N.J.Fr. Leo died there on Feb. 16, 2012. at the age of 89 having served as a professed friar for 69 years and a priest for 65 years.

Death’s End is the concluding volume of Cixin Liu’s Remembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy. If you haven’t read the first two books, don’t begin here. But definitely begin, because this is the most magnificent science fiction work I have ever read, and I have read almost all of them.The first book in the trilogy, The Three Body Problem, was a very nice work, but ultimately the least engaging of the three. The Dark Forest was the best book I’ve ever read, of any genre. It contained elements of anthropology, sociology, philosophy and outstanding hard science fiction concepts and scenarios. It was simply magnificent, and ended in such a manner that a third book was not necessarily required.Well, Death’s End picks up where Dark Forest leaves off, in fact with a little overlap in order to introduce the main protagonist in the final work. For three hundred pages, Death’s End was every bit the equal of Dark Forest, but then there occurs a roughly 100 page segment that is so dumb, so contrived and so out of character with the other 1500 pages of the trilogy that it made me question who had written it and why it was there.It is not really a spoiler to reveal that the referenced 100 pages involve a rather silly fairy tale (for some reason they refer to three tales, though there is really only one, split into three chapters). The fairy tale is part of an inter-stellar conversation between two of the book’s main characters in which one is trying to convey a message through the use of metaphor. The Trisolarans have allowed and even initiated the conversation, but under very strict guidelines that limit information that can be conveyed, under penalty of death. Then, they allow a 50 page fairy tale to be conveyed, and memorized word for word by one of the characters. Sure, that makes sense. I guess the incredibly advanced Trisolarans don’t understand the concept of metaphor and think telling a 50 page fairy tale would be normal conversation under the circumstances.There follows another 50 pages in which the Earth Federation goes about deciphering the fairy tale in such a way that is even dumber and even more senseless than the fact that the fairy tale was conveyed in the first place.SPOILER: In one of the most incredibly stupid moments of any book I’ve ever read, the experts are stumped by a particular place name in the fairy tale. Luckily for them, one of the analysts talks in his sleep. After muttering the mysterious place name in his sleep, he is informed by his live-in girlfriend that the name is actually a combination of two place names in Norway, and not just any place names; names that have not been used for centuries. Luckily for him, his Norwegian girlfriend is a scholar in ancient Norwegian place names. Lucky humans, what are the chances.Then, like nothing ever happened, the novel returns to absolute excellence for the final 300 pages. It is the damndest thing; like listening to a two hour concert featuring the works of Mozart that is interrupted for ten minutes by a cacophonous din of meaningless music, and completely unnecessary as the author could have easily gotten where he needed to go without such a bizarre detour. For such a magnificent work to be marred in such a way is a shame, because one of the strengths of the trilogy is its believability and rock solid hard science fiction. Character actions and plot lines flow so smoothly because they are imminently believable and flawlessly crafted.In any event, it is the best science fiction series I’ve experienced; far more complex and engaging than the Foundation works and so much more approachable and enjoyable than the Dune novels. If a 20 year old asked me where to start in reading science fiction, I would direct him to Foundation and other Asimov works. If a 40 year old, who had sampled much of the genre asked the same question, I would insist that he read this trilogy. Afterwards, he would thank me for the suggestion but ask, “What was up with that stupid fairy tale.”

Death’s End. The title of the final installment gives away what is coming, but whose death? You need to travel an unimaginably long and jaw-dropping journey to find out who/what ceased to exist. Mr. Liu Cixin – or “Big Liu”, a fond nickname invented by his fans in China – now is not only the best sci-fi writer from China, but also one of the best on earth.Remember how far we have come from? The whole story started in around 1960s as China went through a horrible period of political turmoil. When senseless mobs beat a little girl’s father to death in public, her faith in humanity was shaken and lost. Her solution was to seek help from species of other planets, thus changing the course of humanity. As a result numerous lives were lost in the ensuing battles and conflicts. But two unlikely heroes came to rescue – Mr. Luo Ji devised a way to blackmail and diffuse the Trisolarian invasion, and Mr. Zhang Beihai managed to save and plant a human seed far away from the Earth.Did both strategies work? The Death’s End provides the final answer. The main character of the third book is another woman (Ms. Cheng Xin). She is smart but weak, and the choice she made in this book will be long debated among the Three-Body fans. But does it really matter at the end? It appears that, regardless of her choice, the fate of humanity was inevitably sealed. I will say this, that two women, Ye Wenjie in book one and Cheng Xin in book three, pretty much decided the course and the ending (a feminism analysis of Big Liu is due).There are so many refreshing gems in the Death’s End that makes the book irresistible. For example, how to send a communication device to Trisolaris but the device must have minimum amount of weight and can survive long distance of space travel? Big Liu’s answer was plainly crazy yet sensible. For example, Big Liu rebranded himself temporarily and inserted a long and intriguing fairytale, yes, you are reading this correctly, a fairytale about how an evil prince stealing the throne of a kingdom and a princess fighting back. Finally, a stupendous weapon called the “dual vector foil”. I don’t want to elaborate. Let’s just say that if you are still reading my comment here, you are not affected by this weapon (yet).Besides sci-fi and fairytales, Big Liu clearly likes to write detective stories, which are dotted throughout this book series. Book one began with a scientist trying to figure out what was wrong with his vision and who was behind all the suicides of other scientists. Book two had a heavy dose of mouse-and-cat game between wallfacers and wallbreakers. For me Gel pens can by good or bad and these are very good quality. They write beautifully and I am very happy with them.

I love these pens....the colors are perfect for Pusheen fans, plus they sparkle. I just wish they were a finer tip for my planner....but as it is they're great for general use.
