This is a really great book on lean thinking, you may actually learn something if you read it. It's great

It is well laid out and the descriptive elements of the case studies are well written.The main drawback is that it is a business book rather than a practical guide.If you are new to the concepts then this is a good foundation.But don't expect to come away with a roadmap for implementing Lean.

I was fortunate enough to participate in the Pratt & Whitney lean transformation described in Lean Thinking.While it is not a "how to" book, it does a good job of describing the lean initiatives undertaken.This book is a classic "lean must read."

I meet a lot of people every day doing lean/six sigma projects since 1994. Most of you don't want this info and avoid it like a plague. Thanks. Being one of the few that grasp it early on, in a ocean of the asleep, I excel and lead where ever I go. Soon some one around you will read this book and understand how to make their mark, leaving you to work under them. Your refusal to adapt is an opportunity I wish to thank you for. Thanks.

Very disappointed by this book. The claim is that the abilities of synesthetes will in some way be available to us mere mortals ( or the more politically correct neurotypicals) so that we can be ultimately smarter. Synesthetes are people who hear colors or tastes sounds, for example. We are introduced to people who became this way by virtue of some damage at birth, or by virtue of some physical trauma, a blow to the head, for example. Well, it turns out that the ideas presented as ways to achieve synesthete-like awesomeness, like improve memory, etc. are mostly all old hat. For example, the mnemonic suggestions to improve memory have been around for as long as I can remember (tee hee), going back to Harry Lorraine and Jerry Lucas' books. We are also told about how the mind can solve problems during sleep, the way Kekule came up with the benzine ring. Again, "sleeping on it" as a way to come up with ideas and problem solve has been around forever (or maybe longer). We are also offered ways to quickly multiply large numbers. I've got one too - my calculator. And then we are shown how we can name the day of the week for any date of any year, an unbelievably useful skill. Throughout we are bombarded with descriptions of neurobiology, brain scans, retinas and other body parts located above the neck that help us think and create. We are also presented with some futuristic solutions way out on the horizon, some of them extremely speculative and very risky. Sorry, but I'll stick with the mediocre mush currently in my skull exactly as it is. To sum - a lot was promised but very little was delivered.

I purcahsed this book on a whim. At the cost of $0.11, yes eleven cents, with the shipping was 36 times more expensive than the book ($3.99), it was a great deal. Be aware, this covers the earlier Boxsters, the 986. 987 owners may not be too happy with it but if you get it for the historical info, then it is still ok. I have a '99 Boxster so the book is a great find for me. It even has a picture of my car on the cover. :) Well, actually one that looks like mine.Anyway, lots of historical and technical data for the 986 owners. Enough to keep the engineer nerds like myself occupied for a while. I really enjoyed this book.

Recommend for the Porsche Boxster owner or fan, to learn it's history and development. The photos are among the best taken of a Porsche and it's most recent changes.

Nice history of the Boxster

Published in the Boxster's introductory year (1998) with high quality color illustrations on almost every page John Lamm's detailed masterpiece traces the history of Porsche roadsters, the financial difficulty the company encountered by the early 1990's, the development of the highly lauded concept car shown at the 1993 Detroit (of all places) Auto Show, and finally extensive information is presented in a non technical way on how the concept car became production reality. I own and love a first generation 986 Boxster and learned many things I did not know about my car from this book. More recent works cover the subsequent evolution of the Boxster, now entering its third generation but still retaining its original lines. This enjoyable reading is by far is the best treatise on how this great roadster came to life and saved the company.

I read a few of the reviews presented here and some are long and involved filled with personal opinions of Holly versus their own lives and I think most people at this point are just wanting to hear if the book is worth putting out the ten bucks for. I am also one of those people who enjoyed the movie and I already knew the story was not going to be the same so I was keying on the writing. The writing is beautiful. They are all short stories, quickly read and enjoyable. The images within the meticulous writing are worthy of a first class writer. The money is well spent for someone who enjoys good writing. The stories are just what they are - stories.

I decided to read Breakfast at Tiffany’s because of the iconic movie in which Audrey Hepburn plays the eccentric 19-year-old Holly Golightly. I was drawn into the complexity of her character and her somewhat posh lifestyle. Truman Capote’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s holds a mysterious aspect to its characters, which compelled me to read more. The fact that I didn’t know too much about the narrator allowed me to experience Holly Golightly under more detail. What made the story so unique was the narration technique Capote used. By making the narrator exist as an extension of Holly, readers could experience his infatuation for her.What really made this book stand out was Capote’s sensitivity and attention to details. Holly’s New York is quite visceral and it’s almost as though I could experience the high end, New York lifestyle in real life. Holly appears an illusion and twists into any shape the people in her life expect her to be. Holly is a walking contradiction, and her mystery only increases with the numbers on the pages. She seems to know nothing about the world, yet she always seems to be one step ahead, knowing just what to say and how to act. Capote writes Holly as a person who listens only to her heart, breaks the rules and doesn't really care about the future. She is the kind of woman that can’t be tamed and who is in a continual search for the place, which she calls "home". I wished Capote had evolved Holly Golightly more as a character. When she runs away to Buenos Aires, the narrator and myself were left with many questions. Has she forgotten about her friend and that's the reason why she never writes to him? Where did her affairs bring her? Did she find that perfect place where she felt like at Tiffany's? Overall, I was pleased with the book and its wholly captivating flight into fancy composed of comedy, romance, poignancy, and Manhattan's East Side areas captured in the loveliest of colors.Michelle T.

Truman Capote was a genius. There isn't much more to say than that. The novella "Breakfast At Tiffany's" and the three short stories in this collection are a brilliant and compelling picture of human nature. Capote strikes the notes between quirky, uncommon people and their actions and simple touching stories. His characters aren't quite lovable (not people you would want to invite over to dinner with the folks) but they are nevertheless very human and often touching, not off-putting. Breakfast At Tiffany's is much grittier than the rather sanitized Audrey Hepburn-George Peppard film version. The final story in the collection, "A Christmas Memory" is potent without being sappy. Capote's style is readable yet poetic and there are times when his turn of phrase is spot on. I was also surprised that the humor in the stories have a very light touch, unlike the more notorious brutal humor of his real-life persona. This book was one of the few that I've fully enjoyed recently.

It had been a while since I last read this, and so I've grown accustomed to saying that I adore Truman Capote with the exception of "Breakfast at Tiffany's". Well, color me wrong, I adore the entirety of Truman Capote, because as much as the stupid, superficial, sterilized film has worked to dim the memory, the novella itself is a triumph. It's transgressive, radical, funny, poignant, and so well written. It's also very meta: Holly asks the narrator (very similar to Capote himself) if he thinks the people will like him writing about "negroes and old maids", whether anyone is really interested in the marginalized. This is, essentially, why he writes about Holly, who is an epitome of marginalization, but also the exact thing that got redacted in the normalization and de-queering of the novella during the movie adaptation. Ha. Well. My edition also had the three short stories: “House of Flowers” of which I'd forgotten, and enjoyed immensely and anew, “A Diamond Guitar” charged with the homoeroticism akin to that of early Kenneth Anger (was he prophecising his infatuation with Perry Smith?), and “A Christmas Memory” which I have always adored. I think the collection of the three—a story about black sex workers in Haiti, a story about prisoners, and a story about an old maidm—are the perfect counterpoint to Holly Golightly's literary criticism. Besides, they're a great sampling of Capote's range.
