There are NO white pages in the book. Even the pages without large illustrations have the paper printed and marked with ink blots or paper "stains".I would highly recommend this for anyone looking to read the series (again, or for the first time), especially if you plan to read this with someone younger. If this book is a demonstration of what is to come with the illustrated editions for the rest of the series, we're all in for six more impeccable treats.

I LOVE THE STORY. Illustrations are great. PROBLEM is that the book came missing pages 153-168 because 137-152 were printed twice. It took me a week to realize this. You will want to check your books. I'm sure Amazon will take care of me but thank goodness I wasn't gifting this.

These illustrated editions of Harry Potter were done right! All of the original text is there and the artwork is beautiful. Every page has something, whether it's an illustration that takes up a full double page spread, a little drawing in the corner, a thematic border, or just a visually textured background. It may sound chaotic, like the visuals could be too much and break up the flow of reading but it is not; it enhances the story as you turn the pages and delight in the new visuals that each page brings. I imagine these would be a great way to bring children into the story, but they're so nice you may want to protect and collect these beauties. I can't wait for them to release the others.

I think this is my third reading of the Harry Potter series. The first time is a precious memory to me. Our four children would all climb into our king size bed before bedtime and we would read one or two chapters each evening. We homeschooled so, as each child's reading progressed, they read a part too. Their mom died. They're in late 20s now. Five grandkids. Those will be ready to read to before we know it. But life is not always neatly packaged. I married a widow and moved us all. Today they are off to their own lives. My four and I are scattered across four states and even overseas. So, I'm reading to myself now. I can't make a stronger recommendation than to say that I immediately purchased "The Order Of The Phoenix" after finishing this one. I also have the set in hardbound on the bookshelf beside me. But Kindle is just too convenient. *smile*

My husband tried to surprise me with this order, but we share the amazon account ;)I WAS surprised though, because I didn’t realize it would be textbook size with all these amazing scenes drawn out. They’re AH-MAY-ZING drawings!! If you love Harry Potter, you will love these books. For some reason, hubs couldn’t find the first and second of the series (I did ;p) so he bought the third first, but we know the stories by heart so it doesn’t matter to me. I hope they put out all of them! It almost feels like how I felt waiting for the actual series to come out.

There are no actual stencils included in this book. It is a copy of a catalog from back when. The images are small.... tiny thumbnail size. I am an artist and I can work with it anyways. I use it as a guide when recreating a similar design or pattern. For that reason I like it. I would have paid more money for more pages and some larger sized isolated patterns.

Really wonderful book. I was a little upset that some of the designs were very complex and very small, until I realized that this is a Reprint of the original company's design book, from the early 1900's. It shows the prices at that time, and that some of these designs are enormous, door surrounds, etc. I suddenly appreciated it much more. Great service and quick delivery.

I love these dover books. They are full of copyright free images, and often are of quality and artistic style that you won't find in more modern collections. You basically need to scan and cut these images, which I do that with an electronic di-cut machine- super easy.

This book is ideal for artists, illustrators and craftspeople working with textiles, wallpaper and other decorative products as stated on the back cover. It also states that these masterfully executed designs are an important source of copyright-free material. The back of the title page lists restrictions. Such as no more than ten in the same publication or project. Contact information for special permission is included.As an artist who would not use more than one design in a project, this material is perfect for me.

I purchased this book for ideas on re-creating a period look in my 1899 Victorian. Some of them are difficult to see, but there is a TON. Thankfully the Arts & Crafts/Art Deco designs seem to be in good shape to enlarge and reproduce.

However, one needn't be a Renzo Mongiardino to produce a satisfying result. I was slow to warm to the book due to what I feel are a good many "dated" and clumsy designs that no wizard could dazzle. If only 25% of 2286 designs are of use to me, I'm content. I now own two copies. One for the projector, and one for the resource library. The cover art typifies the best of the book's content. It is not a fluke or teaser cover. Those finding this style of motif to their liking, will also enjoy the book's content.

I'm a professional tattooer and I'm always looking for reference material to borrow design ideas from. I have to say, this book has a plethora of amazing designs. Yes, some of the prints are kind of small, but to the people who are complaining about that- all I can say is learn to draw.

This book has a WIDE variety of stencils and of types of stencil. The sizes in the book range from a good 4" x 4" size to really small at 1"x 1". You CAN scan these to reproduce but I find that this book is primarily useful as a reference and source of inspiration. This book was originally used as a catalog, which makes sense when you see the variety in types of stencils.

you have to really read through this book a few times so that you can grasp all the concepts presented here. I was one of those persons whose help was really in a crucial state I'm finding this book was the diamond in the rough for me and it saved my life and my gallbladder. I have a wonderful side effect I dropped 100 pounds within a year and I am feeling much better than I have in a very long time. some of the food in here might be time consuming but once you learn how to do it it really doesn't take much time out of your busy life at all. And in my opinion I would rather spend more time preparing my food in a healthy manner learning to sprout grains and seeds soaking my beans thereby making my body and healthier place to live in so I am indeed grateful for this book and I share it with everyone who asks me to help them with their health.

I got this book on Kindle after having the flu this year, to boost my immune system back up, Her information is good but some of her topics are not well researched, such as the Eastern Traditions, she mentions, and has no clue about, I do think that the raw fermented foods are a good thing, and the fermented beverages are also, she does a lot of promoting of her ...way too expensive products, also in my area buckwheat bread is no where to be found, which she promoted a place in CA that sells it. I also took her test on line and they sent an e-mail to me with the results and said I had a severe case of candida, so I thought wow, I have never had any of the symptoms nor ever been treated for that, but... I thought maybe I was missing something, I bought the book, then took the same test in the book, same answers, and turns out I am in the LOWEST range for having that problem, another scam, I do believe that her book would help people who REALLY have this issue, but don't scam me. Now...some of her info is factual, and I do drink fermented probiotic drinks and I do eat fermented foods, and I do believe that they are really good for you, which is what her book is really all about, she also is an avid promoter of stevia, and she does have good advice for candida, but I do it for my health and have for a long time now, I also checked out the prices she sells her products for, WAY TOO Expensive!!!! look around in your area health food and grocery store, you can get the fermented veggies and drinks (Kevita sells good tasting drinks) for about a fourth the price. The book it's self is good, but read with open eyes.

I read this book cover to cover and follow the Program religiously. I feel better, have my energy and stamina again. No more bloating and stomach issues. I’m regular without meds. I look great and lost a lot of weight. It’s a lifestyle though not a diet so it’s not a quick fix. After 6 months of following it’s become who I am. I’ve started getting others to try as well. I don’t have swelling in my joints or aches and pains any more either. This is how everyone should live!!

This book contradicts many things and it is a 'business manual" for body ecology products. I read this book half way and just threw it in a corner. This book is simply a manual for all of body ecology products and how to incorporate them into your diet... I wouldn't recommend this book . I found the GAPS book by Dr.Natasha Campbell very well informative.

This is a great diet for digestive health. I started it about 5- 6 weeks ago and have seen an increase in energy, moods regulated, and have lost 11 pounds. I still have low energy days, but I feel like it will take time to heal my body from years of unhealthy eating. Cutting sugar from my diet has curbed my food cravings dramatically and made it much easier to stick with.

I found out about this book through a raw blog. A guy described his battle with candidiasis. I didn't realize that guys could get it and I never realized that candidiasis manifested itself in a spectrum of ways that I suffered from. I purchased this book and spend about 2 weeks reading, studying, and highlighting the book. I started the diet last Monday and I have to admit that the book has become my bible just because it's been a huge change for me that I continually have to refer back to the book. I photocopied a couple pages of the book to carry around with me and use as a reference when I'm out and I have to figure out what I can eat.I used to be on the raw food diet, ate organic and healthy and I was still experiencing a low immune system, breaking out, and a chronic yeast infection that I've had for over 5 years. I've tried treating the yeast infection with antibiotics, a watered down hydrogen peroxide douche, and boric acid suppositories. None of the treatments stuck. My yeast infection returned with in a day or two of stopping the treatment. If I ever had more than one day a week of an early work day, I came down with a sore throat.I'm so ecstatic to report that this diet has cured me of my yeast infection. I can't believe it.It was difficult for me to return to cooked foods because I loved the principles of the raw food diet, but being cured of the yeast infection has made me a believer. Obviously my body wasn't receiving the nourishment it needed to heal itself.I gave this 4 stars only because the book is a constant advertisement for her products. I realize that a person needs to make a living, but I felt like it was a little overkill. If you do a Google search you can find other ways to make cultured vegetables without using her starter kit. I use 1 liter of water to 2 TB sea salt and pour it over a mixture of chopped veggies and let it sit on my counter for 7 days. So far, it's worked great. I also purchased water kefir granules 2 years ago from an online shop that only sells that and they are still healthy and creating wonderful drinks. I will eventually use them to make cultured coconut water.I went through some crazy sugar withdraws during this first week. I felt like I was a drug addict. That has been the most difficult part of this adjustment. Teas with flavored stevias (specifically vanilla cream) and my recipe for homemade healthy kettle corn has helped me greatly.

Fascinating account of a little-known topic: Chicago once had the largest cable car system in the world. Also, cables in the streets in the Loop ran at a slower speed than those in lesser trafficked areas. Much graft and corruption of course accompanied the building of several systems. The complexity of in-the-street cable vaults and the extravagance of keeping tons of cable in constant motion even when few cars were running doomed cable systems as soon as electric streetcar technology became reliable. That plus the need to continually replace miles of cable as they wore out, and problems when a grip got caught in frayed cable and couldn't stop, and a number of other problems inherent in the system.

First, a disclosure: I know Greg personally. This guy loves Chicago and loves transit. And it really shows in this book. If you have any interest in the history of mass transit, this is a must-read, covering a little-investigated era that came and went faster than the riverboat culture on the Mississippi. If you love Chicago, it's an added bonus. That Greg's writing style is eminently readable doesn't hurt a bit. If you live in Chicago, you'll find yourself looking at the streets as you travel the City, looking for remnants of this amazing Goldbergian technology.

Until a few years ago I didn't realize that Chicago had a cable car system at one time, replacing or limiting the earlier horse cars and before the extensive trolley system developed.This book is short, with a number of pictures, but a reasonable amount of text. I'd suggest it to people interested in the history of Chicago or public transportation.

A lot of reading for the money

Cable cars are a rare topic at the best of times, and in the case of Chicago - a city that has always looked to the future rather than its past - soon forgotten by the passage of history. This is an excellent piece of research, supported by useful and extensive maps.

If you knew absolutely nothing about cable cars the book might be informative. Otherwise it was mundane.

This book is incredible! From the organization to the writing, this book successfully communicates difficult economics concepts to a novice audience while delving deeper in the history and conceptual origins of various fundamental economics concepts. My favorite aspect of this book is that it organizes the concepts quasi-chronologically meaning that it explains a concept as asserted by a given thinker and then it gives a thumbnail overview of the author, the idea, when the ideas were developed, who wrote about a similar concept before, and who developed the idea later on. This book is perfect for anyone who wants to really understand where our economic concepts come from and how they developed to where they are now.

I enjoy the Big Ideas Imply Explained series. It takes difficult subject matter and simplifies it into a comprehensive work. Economics can be very complicated if it is looked at mathematically, however, the theories presented here describe the underlying philosophies to an Economist's approach in problem solving real issues.

Contrary to some of the other reviews, I found this book to be entirely objective and not opinionated. It seems like it did an outstanding job of covering a great majority of the subject's biggest topics in chronological order.

My parents lived from paycheck to paycheck. They did not understand money and/or economics. The two are not the same and understanding one is not the same as understanding the other. Many basic ideas in economics have been around for hundreds and/ thousands of years. Many of the most important and recent have been developed during the World Wars and their aftermath. The recession of 2008-2009 caught everyone by surprise. In my opinion it was not dealt with very well and could happen again. This book explains why. The lessons here hopefully will help all of us and our leaders deal better with the problems of the world economy.

This is a good book that presents ideas clearly and concisely. However, it is dangerous for those with minimal understanding of economics. It leads to misunderstanding or assumptions about how economics is studied. If you purchase this book and want to be able to intelligently discuss one of the ideas, I highly recommend additional research. If you are just looking for exposure to the major ideas for better understanding, then this is a great book for you.

I read a lot of both fiction and non-fiction book and this was definitely among the most enjoyable, clear and nicely constructed book I could've hoped for, on this subject. The book is constructed as a quick visit into all the core or most important concepts, each occupying one, two or three pages, with illustration and a small bio of the main figure behind the concept.

I felt like I was in college again. Simply put this book was a masterpiece!!!

This book is highly informative! Not just for kids. I bought it for my 12 year old boy who has a deep interest in supply/demand and why things sell. I have been reading it as well and love it!

Operation Crusader is a fascinating, challengingly complex subject. Here we see British forces beating their German opponents in a swirling armored clash just 18 months after an overwhelming defeat in France. The British advantage in numbers was about 3 to 2 in the air, and 5 to 4 in tanks - hardly overwhelming. British equipment, training and tactical doctrine were below German standards. Axis leadership came from no less than Erwin Rommel, one of Germany's best armored commanders. How, then, did the British pull off this victory?This title gives a useful, but not completely clear short summary of the battle. Overall narrative flow bogs down in the battle's minutiae. To give the author his due, this is an extremely complex subject. For example, the back-and-forth tank and infantry battles at Sidi Rezegh rank among the most chaotic ground actions in World War II. There are issues of morale, equipment quality, tactical doctrines, and decisions made under pressure by overworked and battle-exhausted commanders - a lot to condense into 94 pages.It takes a re-read to get at the flow of this complicated battle. Here the carefully annotated maps are helpful, although you may find yourself paging between different maps to trade off between geographic scope and detail. The illustrations are good, with informative captions giving additional insight into tactical details, weapon systems, and personalities.I found the author's account of Rommel's "dash to the wire" entertaining. Determined to keep up the momentum of his daring thrust into the British rear, the Desert Fox spent a cold night in the desert, his command vehicle trapped on the wrong side of the border fence, all alone as Eighth Army tanks and trucks rolled around in the dark, oblivious to his proximity and helplessness.In the end, as the smoke of this chaotic campaign cleared, the British had persevered, aided by General Auchinleck's ramrod determination, a stronger logistical base, and the availability of reinforcements to assist. The British victory was probably more important than most historians realize, and it was a near-run thing. Had Rommel won instead, he might have been in a good position to finish off the British in the desert in the next year, when setbacks in the Far East, Mediterranean, and the U-boat war drained the British war effort. This title makes a useful introduction to an under-appreciated campaign.

This volume seems to be the missing piece to complete Osprey's coverage of the North African phase of WW2. Although Osprey's books are generally leagues ahead of other publishers in staying specific to forces, commanders, battles plans and the actual events that occurred in the execution of various campaigns throughout the entire breadth of history, there have been some volumes that were better than others. The book on the epic Gazala battle was one of the weaker offerings, while the books on Tobruck and Alamein are great. One of the best features of this book is a plethora of photos, many of them previously unseen by this jaundiced eye, long accustomed to seeing the same pictures and footage of WW2. Also, the original illustrations in this volume are great, especially on the back of the disappointment I felt with the Gazala volume.Operation Crusader was a sprawling attempt by the British to relieve the garrison in Tobruck as well as an attempt to lure Rommel's armor into a pitched battle with the aim of defeating them decisively. Only one of those aims was met and Crusader went awry, while the Afrika Korps maintained a disciplined concentration and mixture of forces, the British tended to segregate their various arms (armour, infantry, artillery) and string them out out in a way that meant that individual formations could not support one another. If one brigade or company came upon the Afrika Korps, it was totally outnumbered and outgunned.A major slugging match broke out unexpectedly near the airfield of Sidi Rezegh, a gateway to Tobruck and several British (and Commonwealth) units that had accrued much experience in desert warfare were nearly wiped out. Not content with breaking the spearhead of the British attack, Rommel then struck toward the British rear, even driving his vehicles right through the British HQ, nearly cutting off the entire British strike force at the Egyptian border. I must mention that at no time did the Germans have even half the number of tanks of his enemies. I won't spoil the rest of the story for you, you'll have to get this book, then once you have an overall knowledge of this campaign, check out Robert Crisp's Brazen Chariots, also available through Amazon.

I came across this book at random and decided to read it because I am interested in the Underground railroad. I was immediately drawn in and proceeded to read the whole thing. the writing is well done and combines both historical depth and storytelling. The events retold here are fascinating accounts and the one about Peter and William Still definitely needs to be made into a movie! The last chapter about combating modern day slavery was a great addition to a history book and brings the subject home. I also like his focus on how much a young activist can do since I am in college. I would highly recommend this book!
