I love Mayan history, and have been to several of the ruins in Southern Mexico (including Chichén Itzá, and Tulum, several times). I was disappointed though, in the broad way the book covered the history. It did not get very specific, and just lightly touched on the various periods. It’s a good book if you are looking for an introduction to Mayan history and a light overview, but that is all you are going to get.

It tried to put thousands of years of history into a short book. The Maya are way too complex to try to do it like this

Pros: coverage of cosmology, history, and significance of buildings/cities. Definitely a good intro for the novice (which I am).Cons: very simplistic language and tone (e.g. first person to reader direct storytelling style, with exclamations). May be more suited to young adult readers or those who are generally suspicious of or uncomfortable with different cultures or people. I think the language and style may be intended to allay that discomfort.

Great book about the Maya civilization. I did not know much about them but this book filled in the holes. Excellent research and easy to read

Great, helpful book. Using it my daughter raised her score from a 29 to a 34 enabling her to get a full tuition scholarship to an amazing university.

This is a great study guide and helped my daughter increase her score on the ACT by 3 points. The book arrived on time and was packaged well.

My son took the test again and improved his score by two points after reading the book. He's going to take the test again and I will update if it continues to improve.

This book first caught my eye by the several reviews that after reading this book and doing the practices, how affective it was for raising the ACT Score. I can now say with proof that my daughter who is not a great test taker, and scored a 16 on her ACT prior, just received her ACT score for the September 2016 test, and her composite score was a 25! She exceeded in all areas above and beyond. I highly recommend this book as it is laid out for you to easily understand, organized in sections and gives you great tips to why to select that answer vs. just showing that the answer was incorrect.

This book helped me get familiar with the ACT and I ended up scoring higher. Good book.

My daughter just scored a 31 after taking the test for the first time. She will take it again in the fall. I think the results speak for themselves.

Excellent to the point study guide with practical tips and information.

The broken family court system is complicit in this epidemic, seen not only in America, but all over the world. Stephen's work is well researched and if you are passionate about family court reform, this book is a must for your personal library!

No one knows the ins-and-outs of the family court system like Stephen. It is a system designed to put families through an expensive maze of litigation. "A broken system" clearly explains how money is made off of prolonging conflict with children paying the price.

It is very difficult to learn about the unjust situation we encounter, I found this book to be both understanding and to the point. I have read so much literature trying to understand, I appreciate it coming from someone who was on both sides and recognized which one was the humanly right one.

Truth about Family Law Courts and we should all be aware because the deep corruption and lawlessness that is allowed is ripping up the fabric of our families and destroying the future generations. If it can happen in Family Courts, it can happen in all Courts.

Ohhh, whooopie ... another book pumping out the same crap as the Divorce Corp movie. Yeah, we get it, it's screwed up. But I get pissed over this crap because it's nothing but a well-documented whinefest with never any realistic suggestions on how to make it better while still protecting the people it needs to (aside from the already-implemented and still growing movements toward mediation, ADR, etc).As someone who went through the system 25 years ago, went to law school as a result, and has spent 20+ years working in the system and fighting to make it better, these victim-fests without any realistic suggestions toward improving it are a waste of time.

The book is really loaded with usefull information, not only about acoustics but also about our perception of hearing/However it is frustrating when he explains (for example) how to make tube traps from cement pipes, but gives no details of the dimensions. So he takes up so far and then he does not give suficient details of how to complete the job.One star less for lack of details.

Wow. This book is a brain melter. I want to learn about acoustics to properly build recording and mix rooms. This book is heavy on theory, math, practice, experience, science...it's a lot. I love it though. I feel like I could read this book for a decade and still not absorb all the info. A lot of it is not practical for my situation, but that's fine. I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. A good starting place, but if you're just trying to build a better room, this book is not where I'd start, or stop. Still an amazing resource though.

This is an incomplete review, because I haven't read most of the book yet. I plan to, though, and at that point, I'll come back and update this.So far, I really enjoy the book, and it's made many things clear to me that weren't before. I'm hoping that trend continues. However, I felt compelled to write because one of the reasons I bought this book was that I saw a few people saying that the "math wasn't too difficult" or it "wouldn't intimidate anyone." :o) Well, I must be quite the dullard, because holy crap! Everything was going great for the first two chapter or so and then I turned the page, and I felt as though I was listening to the teacher on the Peanuts cartoons. It went from 0 to 60 with the math fast enough to make my head spin, and I had no CLUE what was going on. I took it with a grain of salt though and kept going, and eventually it relented once more.I'm not going to deduct any stars because I don't (at least not yet) understand the math, but I just wanted to clarify that the math certainly WILL intimidate some people if I'm at all typical. But there's plenty more useful information in here that's not math-related at all, so even if I'm never able to grasp it, I feel as though I'm going to learn an awful lot from this book.

Exactly what I was looking for. It explains in depth the properties of acoustics and sound waves. Reads like a textbook, but that's ok. It's not supposed to be a bedtime story.

An important book to anyone interested in Oriental rugs. Well written with excellent color plates. Try and purchase the 1992 edition used. The color plates are more accurate. The 2016 edition is the exact same book - no updates- but smaller print and pages with less accurate color plates. The earlier edition is much preferred.

4 and a half starsA very informative book liberally illustrated with color plates of some of the most exceptional types of oriental rugs. An excellent commentary written by one of the real gentlemen of the rug business. The author offers some of his own unique theories and insights. Jim does tend to put emphasis on his own particular favorite types of rugs such as Persian tribal rug weaving so know that it is not a comprehensive guide. This in no way lessens the importance of this book. Good as a coffee table book for anyone who appreciates beauty as well as must have for the rug aficionado.
