My 4 year old son and 2 year old daughter are both obsessed with this book. (They also love the Disney Christmas collection.) We have made many of the recipes. I only wish there were more Disney cookbooks out because my kids can't seem to get enough!

Lots of other reviewers have described the recipes, and the ones we've tried so far are great. (The pancakes are the best you'll ever make!) I posted some example pics of the pages.What I actually want to comment on, as an artist, mom and avid Disney fan, are the illustrations, which I LOVE. I looked at each page just so I could look at them. Whoever did these illustrations needs to be promoted to head of the Disney Princess product art department! They are very well done, and very true to each princess' movie look. I couldn't stand Disney's extreme "makeovers" on all the princesses, where they glammed them up by not only giving them more makeup and fancier hair and clothes, but also changed their bodies and faces, making them taller, skinnier, paler, older and vapid. But in this book, the princesses look just like they did in the movies, very cute, more "real" (as real as a cartoon can get) and down-to-earth, with some personality. Love it!Also, the men are shown cooking too, which is great!

Book came nicely packaged. We already made few recipes and they were all delicious.

I gave this to my granddaughter on her 8th birthday. Since she lives of state, I could not make the party. I gave her a diamond and birthday stone 24 kt. gold necklace. She is very privileged and received very nice gifts but this was her favorite. I felt I had wasted money on the necklace when I could have just given her this. She loves to cook and she told me that she has made two things already in less than 3 days of receiving it. She said it was "the best gift ever". Even my husband was impressed with it.

I was impressed by the quality of this book. It is sturdy with a thick glossy cover. The pages are made from heavy paper. The recipes are appealing and broken down into small steps for the beginning cook. Each recipe is a double page spread. One side is the picture of the dish and the other has the recipe and an animated character from one of the Disney movies. Very visually appealing. Most of the ingredients are staples in the average kitchen. There are a few recipes whose pictures are quite unrealistic in their presentation, such as the snack Magic Carpet Roll-Ups; cream cheese on a tortilla with sliced red peppers and carrot. Easy enough to do and a pretty good snack, but the photo shows the carrot sticks cut impossibly thin, fine and uniform, not something most adults could replicate. Certainly nothing a child could hope to accurately replicate. That being said, many of the recipes are pretty simple and appetizing. All in all a very nice book I would purchase again.

My 5 year old loves to cook in the kitchen with me. Excellent book with great photos. Easy & fun recipes that use normal ingredients. Nothing too fancy but good inspirations.

This is probably the best cookbook I have ever purchased. I bought one for a gift and loved it so much I bought one for myself. When it arrived a friend who was heading off to college thought it was such a great starter cookbook she took that one and I had to buy another one for me. The recipes are not boring, standard foods. And lots of healthy options. The instructions are really easy to follow and perfect for anyone at any age to follow. Its not to childish for grown ups but not too advanced for kids. Gives great cooking basic tips at the beginning. This is great and I would gift this to anyone!

Wow. I thought "how good can this cookbook be?!" after reading all these reviews. But they're right. This is a remarkably well done cookbook. With four little girls, we've started quite the collection of children's cookbooks, and this is far and away the winner. Beautiful illustrations, clear instructions, charming concepts behind the recipes - but most importantly, the recipes are GOOD! Innovative, tasty, simple.... I'm blown away. We've already made three things out of this in a week, with plans for two more this weekend. Don't let the "Disney" part throw you - this isn't just a cutesy cookbook.

This cookbook is a surprisingly good cookbook. Most of the time I get frustrated with cookbooks for kids because they will have clever names for something that is literally toast with butter, or a peanut butter and jelly. Some kids actually want to do REAL cooking (with parental supervision and help, of course!), and this book will let you do that. At first I thought it was going to be one of the annoying books. I opened to a random page that showed bread with jam on it. To my surprise, it was actually a recipe to make the jam from scratch! Another page showed bread and butter, but it actually showed how to make the bread (I believe it was baguette). The recipes are all actually recipes, not just snack ideas that are cleverly named. Well worth the price.

If you want to delve into the amazing world of black women horror writers, you can't go wrong by starting here. These stories and poems range from the curious to the macabre to the terrifying, and each one is a treasure. Highly recommended.

My initial impression of SYCORAX’S DAUGHTERS was injured by bad layout. If that doesn’t bother you, great, lucky you, but once I saw it I couldn’t unsee it. Specifically, I couldn’t unsee it in the whole 500+ page book. Mid-line paragraph breaks, orphaned dashes, all kinds of strange arrangement errors… it looks like it was exported straight from a word processor.That’s too bad, because there is a lot to like in here. My tastes run more towards fiction than poetry, but I read everything cover to cover and built up a string of author names I’ll be seeking.Anyway, without further ado, here’s each piece in the book, in order of publication, briefly reviewed. Spoiler-free, I promise!TREE OF THE FOREST SEVEN BELLS TURNS THE WORLD ROUND MIDNIGHT: Lovely prose, but I have to say it didn’t really scare or unnerve me. It’s OK.THE LONELY, SALTY SEA: Again, a decent but not overwhelming poem. Lover’s suicide verse with no surprises.SCALES: A good story, but more moody and evocative than scary. I personally wanted the conflicts to be sharpened. I felt like the author was being too kind to her characters. But those characters were well observed.LETTY: A definite standout. Disturbing, compelling, a great blend of history and imagery. I do wish, a little bit, that the two protagonists’ narratives had been a little better blended. It felt like a piece of something bigger. But it’s definitely worth a read.A REAL FRIEND: A poem about death by drowning. Didn’t leave a very deep impression.MA LAJA: This was a fun one, deploying some arresting in media res action from the monster’s point of view. Walks a fine line with its dialect, but generally stays on the side of evocative without straying into confusing.RED SCORPION: I didn’t care for this poem. It seemed to only have one level.BORN AGAIN: If you like lesbian vampire stories, go straight to this one. It plays directly to the genre and has the courage of its convictions. If you think you’re too good for lesbian vampire stories, this story is probably too good for you.THIRSTY FOR LOVE: A really fun prose poem about vampires. I dug it.HOW TO TALK TO THE BOOGEYMAN: This one frustrated me. It had a demolishingly strong start, then skipped into fast forward mode and lost me. Then it got good again! But the ending wasn’t as strong as the opener, which left me feeling very slightly let down.SWEET JESUS IN THE CORNER: A short, melancholy elegy.THE MONSTER: Another strong starter. Loved the phrase “opulence of poverty.” Moreover, the detailed descriptions often serve double-duty—establishing mood AND character, or describing the setting AND nudging the plot forward. That keeps things moving along at a good clip without feeling like the text has been stripped down too much. Has a nice twist and ends at just the right point.LAST OF THE RED-HOT LOVERS: Some bracing images in this poem, but the author seemed to confuse “I” and “you” within the text. That was… confusing.TASTE THE TAINT: This really felt like the author was judging the protagonist harshly. It’s well written, with some tight sentences, but there’s no ambiguity.WHISPERS AND LIES: A pretty good poem. It’s direct.CHEATERS: Great voice, good gore, moves straight at where it’s going and doesn’t linger. I strongly endorse this tightly crafted tale of erotic pyrokinesis.KIM: Nice opener, strong images, creepy antagonist and exciting end. What more do you want?MORE’S THE PITY: Evocative little poem that never uses the word “werewolf.”SUMMER SKIN: A scary first person “I’m the monster” narrative, but everything’s told through implication. Even though it’s gory (and the gore is strong stuff, I approve!) it’s a story with a lot of subtlety to it. It’s so easy to go wrong with unanswered questions, but this isn’t the kind of story that leaves you frustrated and annoyed. It’s the kind that leaves you tingling with wonder and dread.GOTRASKHALANA: A BLUES: This poem is a series of cryptic images.TAKING THE GOOD: A nice blend of horror and melancholy, supported by well-observed details.POLYDACTYLY: Here’s a poem I really liked. What I like best in poetry is when I have simultaneous feelings of novelty and familiarity—like this surprise is what I expected all along. It’s not easy to pull off, but POLYDACTYLY does.MONA LIVELONG: I’d call this more ‘dark fantasy’ than horror. It’s got some images that make you stop and think for a moment, but it never felt really finished to me. It was like a teaser for a longer novel.THE MALADY OF NEED: This one’s creepy, bleak, evocative and desperate. Pulls you in fast, sweeps you along, and spits you out at the end.THE EVER AFTER: Vivid and surreal, but the end was a letdown. It wasn’t a bad ending, it just wasn’t as good as the setup.PERFECT CONNECTION: Good worldbuilding, but the prose could have used some more work. It honestly felt like the author wanted to write a paranormal romance.FOUNDLING: Hard-boiled fiction about cyberpunk teleportation crimes that haven’t been invented yet. Takes a novel premise and runs with it in directions that aren’t the most obvious, but which are perfectly thought out. I really liked this one.RISE: What are these mutants going to do in this postapocalypse? Muddle through, I guess. It’s OK, but not great. I find myself wishing the setting had been revealed in passing, not laid straight out.OF SOUND MIND AND BODY: I’d call this “identity-noir.” It’s a gritty narrative about a spy whose self-changing bio-disguise has some serious, serious drawbacks. Good stuff!ASUNDER: Ugh, the grammar error in the first paragraph made me flinch, because it mars an otherwise brisk and efficient job of setting construction. It’s a story with no easy way out, and it doesn’t shy away from that.TERROR AND THE DARK: A self-reflective biography poem. Pretty good.EVE OF DE-NILE: I can only describe this story as ‘awesome.’ My personal favorite in the anthology. Pitch-perfect tone, rich characters, and an exquisitely timed sting in the tail. It’s like drinking two beers and hearing a story from your funniest friend, only at the end you’re left, shocked, with your jaw dropped.SWEETGRASS BLOOD: A short, surreal haunting where you can’t be sure who the ghost is. Really liked the first line.THE ARMOIRE: In this appealing story, a no-nonsense woman connects with a ghostly seducer and she just isn’t having any of it.A LITTLE NOT MUSIC: Disappointing. It started out strong and vivid, but at the end it needed more than just wordplay.DYER DIED IN SILENCE: Historical poetry about a famed infanticidal maniac named Amelia Dyer.THE MANKANA-KUL: Funky… interesting… almost great. It never really explains the titular monster, and leaving that ambiguous works. But something’s missing in this story. I can’t explain what.TOWARDS A PEACOCK POEM: It’s OK. To me though, it’s right on that line where ambiguous starts to become distressingly opaque.MAMA: Vivid and heartfelt, but it has some repetitive phrases.TO GIVE HER WHATEVER SHE WOULD ASK: Yeah, good ol’ Trinidadian body horror. Good stuff.EMPTY HOUSE: Short, cool, and a good finish.SYCORAX’S DAUGHTERS UNVEILED: A summation by one of the editors. It’s fine. Didn’t really move me one way or the other.All in all, I’m glad I took a flyer on this. The quality’s uneven, but I’ve got a new list of authors to watch out for. Specifically: Regina N. Bradley; Crystal Connor; Tish Jackson; Zin E. Rocklyn; Dana Mcknight; Kiina Ibura Salaam; Tenea D. Johnson; K. Ceres Wright; Joy Copeland and Eden Royce.

I heard about this on Pseudopod. The works within are scary in dark, bleak, and sometimes hopeless ways. All the authors have added their own nuanced touch to collection. I'm glad that I decided to buy it.

Well documented but I found it a little dry. In similar books the soldiers' banter is what provides the emotive humour, and these fit young lads, highly trained, most of them, must have had quite the banter at the time. But I suppose it was written long after the event, mostly relying on documents, letters and memory. Having said that, many folks are comparing these lads with Lawrence, and Lawrence's book was equally, if not more dry, and certainly not such an easy read as this. It's a quick read and certainly worth the effort. All such books are worth the effort for their historical value and getting a handle on the men who did this work back in the '60s. The stories of carrying weapons, explosives and ammunition within regular airline baggage is just priceless (Wish that we had it that easy!), showing just how casual everything used to be before the tech-age and modern terrorism. What does come through well, as in all Arab-leaning exploits, is the notion that no one really knew who they could trust apart from their immediate bodyguard. No one knew if the mission would continue or fold at any moment, and what their future might hold if it folded before they were ready. Last, any book which involves the Israelis ferrying weapons to bolster an Arab country (without its knowledge, of course) in its fight against another Arab country is well worth reading. Those are the things of legend that no one ever believes. It's also a necessary read to learn how we got to where we are now. Everything has consequences.

There is a lot that can be learned from this book that pertains to the goings on of today. Small groups of special operators can go into an environment and join a rebel group and make it more efficient and lethal.A much better option than to invade a country and then try to deal with the societal and cultural issues. Imagine if small teams of private military contractors went into Syria at the very beginning and gave the people the tools to free themselves and head of the scourge of ISIS?And the big take away is whether you are Egypt in the case of this book or America today in Afghanistan, never go into these types of terrain and expect to win. The terrain will always favor the defender.This book made me think of Lawrence of Arabia and his great adventures. These men did a fine job and followed in that tradition.

In light of the American withdrawal from the Middle East and now Yemen, this book isa timely reminder of the unsettled nature of the region. The military leadership kept the tribes in line and also to protect thetribal interests.The story line is engrossing and the account well researched and written. End notes oftenilluminate a passage. Truly an amazing story and one worth a reader's time.

This is a real and interesting account of how the world powers acted in the cold war area - war by proxy and plausible deniability!

This book is a fairly easy read and has good informaton about older adults and their healthcare needs. I have found it very useful as it covers many topics and gives good examples making it easy to understand

love it very nice clean no tear and I will keep it safe for my library for a long term

I wasted my money on this textbook; didn't even crack it open once throughout the entire semester. Okay, I did flip through it once or twice, only to find information that did not pertain to the class. The book covers the basic health functions and decline in the older adult, but no where did I see information that focused on the actual care of the older adult. My professor was on the review board for this text, so I hate to bash it but it's really awful.

This was an older edition, but find it useful. I probably would get a newer version next time. It's two years older compared to the 2012 edition.

Used book was received within specified chosen time. Information is easy to understand and read. I wish I had this information before I purchased book.

I am currently using this book for my nursing class and it has not helped me understandt the care of older adults. I have to used other books. This book is boring with unnecessary information, way too mnay statistical information. THe chapters are boring, long and tedious. It would have helped if there are review questions at the back of each chapter.

...which is ironic, because the author himself mentions that the reason Ajax is becoming so popular is that people demand better fit and finish in their presentation.This man DESPERATELY needs an editor (or a new/better one). Sentances run on and on, without ever getting directly to the point. Here's a great example of what's wrong with the book: in the first two chapters, he describes Ajax in painstaking (almost insulting) detail, but never really nails down WHAT "REST" is. Even after reading a section in the begining of Chapter 2, "Understanding REST Theory," I had to go to the Wikipedia page to learn just EXACTLY what it is.This is a good resource for learning Ajax, but there are other good reasources out there, too -- ones that are better written and won't leave you fighting to understand what's going on through every page.

Buy whatever Ajax primer you want, work with it, get excited about it, but before you use it in a real application, buy and read this book. Never expect to learn about a subject from a patterns book, just expect to leapfrog some painful learning experiences. This book helps you jump from experienced beginner to reasonable competence status without having to build a lot of bad applications first.

Instead of refreshing the entire page, individual elements are changed based on user input and new data pulled from the server. The level of interaction and sophistication involved in using AJAX makes it a force to be reckoned with. Because of that, it's essential to have a book that covers the underpinnings of this technology.True to the title of this book, it is packed with good theoretical discussions of how AJAX works and good strategies for how to use AJAX. Knowing all of the tricks isn't worth much unless you can apply your knowledge in a meaningful way. An example of what I considered impressive was the material on caching strategies: AJAX has always struck me as being a high-transfer way to presenting information and instead this section makes AJAX into a means of saving traffic.Unlike other books on AJAX, this book covers design patterns for the technology. How do you divide data for distribution? Answer: Use the Content Chunking Patterns. How do you effectively maintain state or at least the impression of maintenance? Answer: the persistent communications pattern. How do you make all of the potential data available at the user's fingertips? Answer: the infinite data pattern. In the nine patterns presented the author explores much of theory, and that helps you strategize when it comes time to code your own applications. Each pattern has a dedicated chapter that first presents the intent of the pattern, then the motivation for using it in the context of AJAX, a list of possible applications of the design pattern, and associated design patterns. Next, the design pattern's architecture is explained in the context of solving an actual problem. Finally, the implementation is shown via code and the user's interaction with various webpages. At the end of each pattern's chapter there are "highlights" of what has just been presented.Up to now concrete examples of using AJAX were copious and usable theory has been hard to come by, making this book a welcome volume. I know how to write Javascript, I know what XML is. What I needed to know was how to bring it all together using design patterns that make sense for AJAX. This book accomplished that. What this means is that the book explains how REST is used in developing Ajax web applications.REST is a style on how to send data between a client and a server. Until now, the basics client/server or browser/server requests has been the same for years no matter what server technology you use (ASP, PHP, and JSP). With Ajax the way data is passed and retrieved to the client id different now. So, the way we architect web applications must be different too. Common sense right? Well, this is the first book that I've seen so far that explains Ajax in this way.The first chapter goes into an overview of Ajax and how it has changed how web applications work. It gives some good examples of various Google web applications and explains how the data is sent to the client behind the scenes. It also talks about the various architectural styles of development.The second chapter starts focuses on REST theory and data will be sent via the XMLHttpRequest object. It gives a good detailed explanation of the methods and properties and a sample class written in JavaScript that can be used. It also illustrates a debugging process of this class (in Firebox) and shows you how to run through the different states of the XMLHttpRequest.The third chapter reviews a new pattern ("content chunking") which the author shows you how to incrementally build an HTML page while separating the logic so that each section of the site can be loaded by user interaction. It's something I've never even thought about as I've recently read different Ajax books. Unfortunately, I cannot go into detail of this chapter (otherwise I'd be writing a book), but believe me it is an eye opener.The fourth chapter reviews another pattern ("cache controller") which is the pattern how Google created Google Maps in how the site temporarily stores data per session. This is another reason to buy this book as well. Again, I've never seen this methodology discussed in any other Ajax book.The rest of the book goes through other patterns in developing Ajax web applications that will enlighten you in helping you create the next generation of web apps (web 2.0). This book is skinny (less than 400), but each chapter really goes straight to the point in explaining each pattern and how Ajax can really be used correctly.A definite must buy for any web developer wanting to truly understand Ajax.
