This book is simply amazing. The production of Kindle art book is on the rise. It is a great idea to have pictures of your favorite artist on your tablet. I have tried digital art books from several authors and none comes even close to the Delphi Complete Works series. A usual art book will offer you 80-120 paintings of an artist, usually in poor resolution and sometimes with a short biography for $3-$5. This series for the same $3 or less offers your ALL painting of an artist with a great introduction. I especially like that every painting indicates a museum where you can see it.I will purchase more books from this series now!
I knew John Singer Sargent as a portraitest, but this book shows us so much more about his art. One gets to watch as this incredible artist studies, travels, and grows in his art. I was fascinated at how he composed his portrait studies, nearly always creating some visual interest away from the subject - a scarf, fan, painting, couch, or another person to draw the eye. In his travels he painted anything and everything, often in watercolor, which is a difficult medium to control, but obviously Sargent was a master. For me, though, the best were paintings that seemed to be architectural studies or studies of a scene where I didn't notice at first that there were people or animals in the picture at all until I looked wider and was surprised to discover it was so much more than it first appeared. I'm sure I will be turning again and again to this book over the years to discover more each time I look.
All art has a story behind it. I really enjoyed the background history of many of his pieces. Delphi has many Complete Works volumes. I highly recommend them.
I love Sargent and this book it's amazig, it even shows you so much details in his paintings. I really enjoy it.
I love Sargent's work, and to literally have a complete set of his paintings available on my tablet for just a few bucks is pretty wild! I enjoy just leafing through.
If you are a John Singer Sargent fan, you'll enjoy this book. I thought viewing on my iPad was actually a bit better than on my desktop, but you can read/view on either device.
