As a recently called Temple and Family History Consultant, I was very interested in this new book by the mother and daughter team, Nicole Dyer and Diana Elder. For some people it has been very difficult to find names to take to the temple because it seems all the people on their family tree have had their temple work done. And yet, we are told that there are thousands of names still to be gathered—people whose temple work has not yet been completed. This book is full of wonderful information on ways to find these elusive names and also step by step instructions on verifying that everyone in one’s own family tree is sourced and actually a relation. And a note: it is not only for those with a full tree, it is for those who have a partial tree or one that is practically bare. This book also contains many examples from the authors’ own family. There are tips and pointers concerning research strategies, such as the importance of locations, setting goals and how to analyze records. The book also contains detailed instructions for using Puzzilla and FamilySearch Descendancy View. This is a tremendous resource for those of us whose tree is full and finding names for the temple seems hopeless. The Appendix contains forms and tables one can use to create Timelines and Research Logs for personal research. When I received a copy of this book, I was admonished to give an honest opinion concerning its contents. And so I have begun using the information in this book to find names to take to the temple for me, personally, and appreciate the authors’ approach. This is not a “quick, find me a name” method, that could produce disastrous results and cause headaches for those who find that Aunt Polly has been linked to an unknown man and now has 4 children born after her death. In the first pages of the book, the Daffodil Principle is related. It is a wonderful story and such an appropriate example of the importance of working on one name at a time. This book has become such a helpful resource for me, and I am sure for others who are doing family history—looking for names, and getting to know those family members who lived long ago. I am grateful to the authors for creating a book so user friendly—one full of such valuable information!

I have studied and read around the edges of genealogy or family history for many years. Recently I have tried to be more involved and actually do in depth research and fill in many gaps and omissions in my own family history. Most of the information I have is material that others (my mother, father-in-law, aunts and others) have given me -without me doing any of the research or verification.I had the opportunity to receive an e-copy of this book in exchange for giving a fair review of it. I was very impressed and surprised at the content and organization I found within. The author's philosophy of first proving the information you have and then finding a specific branch of the family tree to research really makes sense to me. Also I have learned to make a research plan based on a specific question or ancestor. The systematic approach, coupled with an emphasis on sourcing and proving all details before moving on to conclusions has been helpful to me in overcoming the feeling of being overwhelmed at the enormity of the task of researching hundreds of individuals and family lines, I have always been concerned about duplicate records and being uncertain of connections between similar individuals. This book has enabled me to move ahead with a plan and forcing me to source and research all individuals to make sure the foundation of my family tree is secure and then to build new solid structures on that solid base.Excellent book and the best I have come across of its type!5 stars for sure.

Finding names for the temple can be difficult, especially if you come from Mormon pioneer stock or if your family is chock-full of family history enthusiasts. Dyer offers a methodical, step-by-step guide to help you find even the most elusive ancestors. Her method focuses on accuracy and thoroughness, both of which are extremely important when doing genealogical research. While tedious, her process will help you save time and make sure you're not barking up the wrong (family) tree. This quick, easy-to-read guide is perfect for beginners (ish); seasoned genealogists should also be able to find helpful information within.

I was given a free pdf version of this book in exchange for writing a review. It exceeded my expectations.I had all but given up on the idea of finding more names to take to the temple since my ancestors are long time LDS members, with several people that have done much genealogy research over the years. However, this book explains a methodical way to look at your tree and do some descendancy research and have some success. The key word for me was "methodical". I don't do well with clicking around randomly and hoping to get lucky. I need some structure and this book explains how to approach things in a way that worked well for me.I highly recommend this book to others that need a step-by-step process for finding names. Good luck to you.

This is a helpful resource for anyone who has a lot of genealogy research already completed in their family but who still wants to continue that research. The information is clear and built on solid principles. For me, I had heard some of the tips given in other places, but found that they were explained better in this book. Also, I appreciated the step-by-step format.I especially like the simplified explanation of the "Research Like a Pro" method. I purchased that book too and have referred to both books often for help with my research. I also liked the explanation of how to use Puzzilla. I have always been fascinated by Puzilla, but had never thought of making a list of possible targets. That makes it a lot easier to keep track! And of course, it does what it promises to do which is to provide a way for people to find names for temple work. Following these steps, a person can easily go from feeling like "all the work is done" to being amazed at how much there is still to do. And then, most importantly have an understanding of how to successfully do it!
